Port Everglades, in south Florida, has a long history. It is within three cities, Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood and Dania Beach and Broward County. It is an artificial port dredged out of Lake Mabel, a natural body of water. Originally, the lake was a vast and low section through the East Canal system of Florida. The Florida Legislature created the May Mabel Harbor deep-water harbor in 1927 and dedicated it in 1928.
The Port has a convenient location close to Atlantic Ocean shipping, the Florida East Coast railroad, the main highway systems of Florida, the Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport and the beaches of Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood.
Port Everglades is home to more cruise lines, ship sailings, and tours than any other international port. Travelers will find 11 around the clock passenger terminals, which have mobile venders, snack machines, restrooms, and seating sections. The two parking garages provide protected parking with 4,500 spaces plus two gated, surface lots. The port has a convenient drop off section and parking ramps plus a free cell phone parking lot for those picking up arriving passengers. The walkways, escalators, and elevators to access the gangways are covered. Passengers to outlying terminals can take the shuttle service. The porter service will transport baggage from the car to the ship.
Cruise passengers can park easily at the Midport and Northport Parking Garages, as well as the Midport Surface Lot, located between Terminals 18 and 19. All the parking has lighting, security, and disabled parking spots, which have direct access to the elevators.
Port Everglades has three sections: Northport on the north end, Midport in the middle section and Southport on the south end. The Port's terminals for cruises and parking garages are in Northport for Cruise Terminals 1, 2 and 4. The Midport Cruise Terminals are 18, 19, 21, 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, and 29.
